In 1978, Mirage was introduced to the Japanese market and was inaugurate internationally as Colt. The 4-door sedan was introduced to the market in 1988. The hatchback model as the Colt and the 4-door sedan as the lancer are marketed overseas.

In 1991, Mirage was released and gave attention to the engineering skills on safety and environmental concerns of users without sacrificing either the stylish precious looks or the class leading performance that drivers have come to expect. The 2-door hatchback was created and designed to give sophisticated and interesting ride. This was upgraded the basic running, turning and stopping performances to guarantee incomparable value.
